Sycamore students take in the Great American Solar Eclipse

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There was much excitement at Sycamore Community Schools for the viewing of Monday's partial solar eclipse. Early in the eclipse, groups of 5th and 6th graders at E.H. Greene Intermediate School went outside to see moon past in front of the sun with their glasses on.

"It was really cool. I'm kind of speechless because there's nothing to say; it's just really cool," said Sophia Calcaterra, a 6th grade student at E.H. Greene Intermediate School.

Hundreds of students there got to see this rare astronomical treat.

Matt Tudor, the principal of E.H. Greene Intermediate School said, "We didn't get the peak time, but it was really cool that we could see the moon creep over the sun as we captured this experience for our students."

After the 5th and 6th graders got their view, the glasses were quickly taken up to the high school where freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors got to see the eclipse late in the school day. Physics teacher Bob Seiple used a telescope and colander to project images of the eclipse onto the ground for students.

Seiple explained, "They are curious. They are having a blast just enjoying the wonder of and display that nature can provide."

The eclipse has come and gone, but students and staff were glad to see to see the moon and a star align even if for a moment.
